This unique double pendant necklace is handmade with a real Luna moth wing paired with a silver-dipped rose quartz crystal point! The top portion of this double pendant is made from a real Luna Moth wing embedded under magnified glass and set in antique silver. (Please read below for more on how I ethically obtain the butterfly wings!) The entire pendant measures approx. 2.5" long x 1" wide. Your choice of short 18" chain or long 30" chain in your choice of regular silver tone metal or an upgrade to .925 Sterling Silver.
The Luna Moth, also known by it's scientific name "Actias Luna" has wingspan of up to 5 inches, making it one of the largest moths in the world! They spend 2 weeks in their cocoons and once they emerge. they only live for approximately 7 days, just long enough to mate and populate the next generation of Luna Moths! This moth is a light pastel green with pink veins and pink, yellow & black "eyespots". They use these eyespots to trick predators into thinking they are a larger animal.
Each necklace will come in a gift pouch with literature on the species of butterfly!
*NOTE* No Butterflies are harmed in the making of my jewelry! All butterflies are raised on butterfly farms and sanctuaries and allowed to live their full lifespan, which averages about 1 month, and then collected and sold so that their beauty can live on! Butterfly Farming actually helps to preserve rain forests and also assures the survival of natural butterfly habitats. Native people are encouraged to grow plants and raise insects opposed to clearing land for cash crops. I am a member of and donate to the Rainforest Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the Rainforest and the many species that live within it, including the Blue Morpho Butterfly!
